Enola Holmes

Age recommendations: 15+

Summary: Enola (spelled backwards makes the word alone) Holmes’(spelled backwards makes the word alone) father died when she was little, and her two brothers (one being the infamous Sherlock) left soon after. Thus her mother was left to raise her, not in the art of embroidery, but in the art of watching and listening and self defense. When her mother disappears on the day of her 16th birthday, Enola must leave her home, evading her brother, Mycroft Holmes’ capture, to find her mother. In the process she befriends Viscount Tewkesbury, who also ran away from home, though for quite different reasons. Enola must outwit her adversaries, and choose to forge her own path, or follow the one set by others.

My review: This movie was clean, and had no vulgar words, or inappropriate dress. It was clever and had well formed beautiful scenery and costumes. However I did not like it. It starts out all right, as I said it was very clever. But there was so much feminism it made it entirely unenjoyable. It could have been tolerated if the plot had not been so incredibly slow. The movie in its bare bones was about how the old ways of England (respectable women who took care of their family) should be put off and new ways (feminism) should be adopted. Honestly if the movie had been faster I would have enjoyed it.

Concerns: Lots of hand to hand combat and fighting, someone is shot at, and there is a murder plot. It is not extreme, but it is there.
